Upper Bearing Retainer Assembly Instructions (1969-200*)
This FREE INSTRUCTION PAGE is an example of how we present our instructions.
This particular page shows you the proper assembly of the upper bearing inner race, race retainer (crown) and tension spring on GM, Jeep and Chrysler vehicles with Saginaw design tilt columns. Proper assembly is critical in preventing looseness in the upper shaft. If the parts are installed wrong you may cause damage to the bearing or 'crown'.
We sell the crown separately here or as part of an upper retainer kit here.
The "inner race" goes in 1st with the smaller diameter edge inward. The inner race slides over the shaft securely and rests inside the bearing. The "race retainer (crown)" follows with the open side holding the race into the bearing. The "spring" goes over the rolled edge of the 'crown' holding pressure on both pieces.
