Broken Shift Pivot Repair Instructions
(Explorer - Mountaineer 2002-2005)
This is a 10 page step-by-step pictorial set of instructions and written specifically for replacing a broken shift lever pivot on Ford Explorer and Mercury Mountaineer models from 2002-2005. This design was used for a few years and has come to be a typical problem on these vehicles. When the shifter breaks, it often damages the small blue micro switches for the brake release mechanism. If these switches cannot be saved, the switches and the black solenoid need to be removed. These instructions provide pictures and written details on how to replace the cast pivot assembly for the shifter only.
