The ignition switch lock cylinder and rack gears push this rod to activate the ignition switch. This design was used on 2 models ONLY (Astro Van & Safari Van) with a brake-shift interlock system incorporating a release solenoid, cable and sliding release attached to the actuator rod. GM used this design on the following models.
